SHIMEJI WHISKBYTE

Privacy policy

Effective October 13, 2026 · Extension version 20.5.0

Whiskbyte is an interactive browser pet. It processes the activity needed for its animations and controls locally on your device. The extension sends no pet data or activity data to the developer or to any server.

Information used on your device

On ordinary web pages, Whiskbyte uses pointer position and recent movement, clicks, scrolling, keyboard-event timing and whether a text selection exists to animate the pet and manage inactivity. Listen reacts to typing rhythm; it does not read the characters typed or the contents of website forms. Keyboard handlers also recognize control keys such as Escape, Enter, Space and arrow keys for the pet’s controls.

These activity signals are handled in page memory. Whiskbyte does not record typed text, selected text, website content, page URLs or browsing history. Recent movement samples are bounded and discarded when the pet is removed from the page or the page closes.

Information saved locally

Chrome’s local extension storage keeps:

This information supports the pet’s care, preferences and optional review request across page visits. It is stored locally rather than synchronized to a developer service.

Permissions

The storage permission saves the local information described above. Access to ordinary HTTP and HTTPS pages lets the pet appear automatically and respond to local interaction. The extension does not run on Chrome’s protected internal pages.

Sharing and remote services

Whiskbyte does not sell or share your data. It contains no analytics, telemetry, advertising, remote executable code or data-upload service. All scripts and animation assets are included in the installed extension.

The welcome page’s Start button opens Google only when clicked. The optional Rate button opens the extension’s Chrome Web Store reviews page only when clicked. These are ordinary browser navigation and send no extension-stored information. The destination websites follow their own privacy policies.

Retention and control

Raw activity signals and timing remain only in the current page’s memory and are not saved as event logs. Closing the page releases that memory. Saved pet preferences and state remain in local extension storage until changed or deleted. You can change preferences through the pet’s controls and remove its local extension data by uninstalling Whiskbyte. Disabling the pet stops its on-page activity.

Limited use

Whiskbyte’s use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Information is used only for the disclosed browser-pet features. It is never used for advertising or profiling and is never made available for people to read.

Contact and updates

For privacy questions, use the developer contact details on the Chrome Web Store listing. Changes to this policy will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
